Day 29 - almost at the end

Sunday 29 June 2025
Blog image

Gosh I'm tired, SWP ends tomorrow and I'm thrilled with how much I've raised,💓 SO grateful for those who have made a donation, and those who have followed my antics. It's been hard doing this around work and in the winter, but nothing compared to the struggles our rainbow 🌈 community faces every day. No dancing today, just walking.

Day 28 - woohoo

Saturday 28 June 2025
Blog image

Thanks to my dearest friend, I broke through the $1k x Very wet this morning so stayed mostly on the path with my bedraggled dog who wanted to stay inside. Dancing tunes once inside: Waterloo - Abba; Word Up - Cameo; Anxious - The Housemartins; That's Entertainment - The Jam; Why Does Love Do This To Me - The Exponents; The Eton Rifles - The Jzm; The Lovecats - The Cure; Who Killed Bambi - Sex Pistols & Eddie Tenpole; Can You Feel My Heart - Bring Me The Horizon; She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult.

Day 27 - feeling grateful

Friday 27 June 2025
Blog image

Feeling so grateful to have raised $1K, it hasn't been easy, but so worth it. This morning was unusually warm so dancing about resumed among the trees while Carter sniffed around happily. Today's tunes: Back in Black - ACDC; 20th Century Boy - T.Rex; The Boys From County Hell - The Pogues; Message in a Bottle - The Police; Rehab - Amy Winehouse; Highway to Hell - ACDC; Bizarre Love Triangle - New Order; Hungry Heart - Bruce Springsteen.

Day 26 - So excited!

Thursday 26 June 2025
Blog image

So excited to wake up this morning and see I'm at $954!! This motivated a bad dancing session, pre-walk, to these tunes: Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice; Wannabe - Spice Girls; The Honeythief - Hipsway; Town Called Malice - The Jam; Love Shack - The B-52's; Say What You Want - Texas; No Sleep Till Brooklyn - Beastie Boys; Hong Kong Garden - Siouxsie and the Banshees; So You Win Again - Hot Chocolate; Kid - The Pretenders. Just need $46 to reach a $1K, how cool would that be, 5 days to reach that goal.

Day 25 - back to it in my new sweatshirt

Tuesday 24 June 2025
Blog image

Did a single smaller loop of our track today, felt good to be in the fresh air and feeling better. Then as promised I danced badly and slowly to: Pictures of You - The Cure; Just Like Honey - The Jesus & Mary Chain; Dear Prudence - Siouxsie &The Banshees; Peaches - The Stranglers; A New England - Billy Bragg; The Leaving of Liverpool - The Pogues; Slow Slow Music - The Go-betweens; Sunday Girl -Blondie

Day 24 Why am I doing this? And some thank-you's

Tuesday 24 June 2025
Blog image

Why am I Sweating with Pride? For my friends Steven and Susan, who realised they were gay as teenagers, but didn't get the support they needed, so struggled with their mental health into adulthood. For Philip, who died of AIDS, facing relentless discrimination until the end of his life. For Andy, who married in the hope he'd 'straighten out' and make his parents proud, but tragically died by suicide. Their struggles were real and profound, and they faced immense challenges for simply being who they were. And finally, my darling girls, there is nothing wrong with you, but theres a lot wrong with the society we live in. It is rife with discrimination, but you must live freely and authentically and if doing this helps others better understand and accept this truth then I've achieved my goal. I'm fundraising to help educate others, so no one has to face these struggles alone. We have to fight discrimination and create a more understanding, supportive and safe society. Thanks SO much to my amazing donors so far: Anne, Rom, Corina, Norma, Charmaine, HKA, Sarah, Andrew, Hils & Andrew, Tracy, Raelene, Little & Loud, Abby, Nadia and Robyn, I really appreciate your support. If you haven't donated yet, please do, every dollar helps make a difference and if you can't donate, be an ally!

Day 20 - Les Mills semi failure

Monday 23 June 2025
Blog image

Still sweating - today I attempted to use the free Les Mills dance workout...I'm so totally uncoordinated but determined. And the broken light fitting above was not due to me, the thingy inside snapped last week and it fell out, although it adds something here. Feel I might be coming down with something...tired, sore throat 😞

Day 23 - list track as I've been sick

Monday 23 June 2025
Blog image

Managed a short walk this morning, but hopefully back on for the final week starting tomorrow. came down with a range of symptoms and currently deplete of energy.

Day 16 - woohoo $830

Thursday 19 June 2025
Blog image

Absolutely stoked to have raised $830, thank you to all my generous friends 🙏. Today's exercise has been walking, twice around our smaller bush track this morning and again this evening. No dancing, today as it's been a big week at work, a long Board Meeting last night and now, with Matariki tomorrow, a much needed long weekend, so I'm having a rest.

Day 15 - Midweek madness

Wednesday 18 June 2025
Blog image

Mad because it was so cold this morning for my walk that the dog refused to come with me. Managed 2 loops of our little track, then inside for my dancing before a quick change into my 'star outfit' so my work team could celebrate Matariki. Midweek melodies: Hey Jack Kerouac - 10,000 Maniacs; When I'm Sixty Four - The Beatles; Black Man Ray - China Crisis; Inbetween Days - The Cure; Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters; Planet Earth - Duran Duran; The Final Countdown - Europe; Loco in Acapulco - Four Tops

Day 16 - Feeling Hopeful

Tuesday 17 June 2025
Blog image

Dancing is truly back on after my walk, so the sheep are running away from me and my music again. Tomorrow Sweat With Pride sponsors will double every donation! I'm eeling hopeful and increased my goal to $800 so really hope you'll consider donating!! Pictures of You - The Cure; Spellbound - Siouxsie and the Banshees; Road to Nowhere - Talking Heads; Irish River - The Pogues; Waterfall - The Stone Roses; Thieves Like Us- New Order; Our House -Madness; There She Go's - The La'as; I Second That Emotion - Smokey Robinson; People Need Love - Abba

Day 15 - 'My Monday'

Day 14 -Sunday walkies

Monday 16 June 2025
Blog image

Quite a bit of walking for me today, although I stayed around home and felt so grateful for our big garden to roam around. No dancing occurred as I made a big roast then couldn't move.....

Day 13 - a good day

Saturday 14 June 2025
Blog image

Day 13, I'm so excited to have raised $734, way more than i hoped, thank you!! Always on My Mind - The Pet Shop Boys; It Startwd With A Kiss - Hot Chocolate; Maori Ki Te Ao - Stan Walker.

Day 12 - feeling exhausted

Friday 13 June 2025

Walked today, too tired for dancing after final morning of conference, the drive home then the work drama when I dropped into the office.  So I'll rest up and be off again tomorrow.

Day 11 - no time for dancing

Thursday 12 June 2025
Blog image

Huge conference day so no time for dancing, but managed a walk along the waterfront. My dancing video last night generated much laughter and one new donation - thank you! Dancing steps resume tomorrow.

Day 10 - conferencing in Wellington with Jill from Accounts

Wednesday 11 June 2025
Blog image

Managed my morning walk but my dancing was cut short as at a conference with none other than Palmy Frag Fest's 'Jill From Accounts: woohoo. Back in my room a bit of bopping was managed : Delilah - Tom Jones; Sayonara - The Pogues; Somewhere in my Heart - Aztec Camera - Pump it Up - Elvis Costello and the Attractions; It's My Life - Bon Jovi ; My Baby Just st Cates For Me -Nina Simone. That's me for tonight.

Day 10 - bit of a headache

Tuesday 10 June 2025
Blog image

Bit of a headache this morning, only had a teeny gin last night but feeling stressed from work. But then this morning BOOM a new donation which was such a boost x Then a call from one of my teachers who came out gay to me several years ago....she was too scared to tell her mother and was in her view 'living a lie'....a good reminder why I'm doing this. Today's tunes - Boys Don't Cry - The Cure; Just Like Honey - The Jesus and Mary Chain; Peek A Boo - Siouxsie and the Banshees; And She Was- - Talking Heads; No More Heroes - The Stranglers; That's Entertainment - The Jam; Don't Stand So Close To Me - The Police ; Man on the Moon - REM.

Day 9 - dancing away my irritation

Monday 9 June 2025
Blog image

A freezing cold Monday morning ensured only a short walk with the dog. Had a bad day at work so worked off the irritation with a good bop around the dining table as only Carter and I were home. The tunes that improved my mind: Lifted - Lighthouse Family; Rebel Rebel - David Bowie; Black Sheep - Gin Wigmore; I'm an Albatraiz - AronChupa, Little Sis Nora; Return to Sender - Elvis; Cool for Cats - Squeeze; To Know Him us to Live Him - Amy Winehouse; I Say a Little Prayer - Aretha Franklin; Don't Leave Me This Way - Thelma Houston. Certainly feeling more positive right now. I don't know how people cope if feeling down and misunderstood every day.

Day 8 - A Frosty Start

Sunday 8 June 2025
Blog image

After a freezing walk this morning, my dancing was indoors as a break from ironing...In-between Days - The Cure; Spellbound - Siouxsie and the Banshees; Dirty Old Town - The Pogues; Don't Stand So Close To Me - The Police;Slow Slow Music - The Go-betweens; Just Can't Get Enough - Depeche Mode; I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down - Elvis Costello and the Attractions; Push It -Salt-N-Pepa

Day 7 - went all out today!

Saturday 7 June 2025

Thats Entertainment - The Jam; Weather With You - Crowded House; Poi -: Patea Māori Club; Victoria - The Exponents; Who killed Bambi- Sid Vicious & Eddie Tenpole,; Johnny Come Home - Fine Young Cannibals; I Can't Help Myself - Four Tops; Reach Put I'll Be There - Four Tops;Rolling in the Deep - Adele; I'm Falling - The Bluebells; Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division; Can Your Pussy Do Tge Dog - The Ĺ Cramps;Over You - Roxy Music; My Sister Rose - 10,000 Maniacs;Love Resurrection - Alison Moyet; What's New Pyssycat - Tom Jones; You Can't Hurry Love -The Supremes

Day 5 - Dancing in the Dark

Thursday 5 June 2025
Blog image

Thanks for my latest donations friends, I really appreciate your support x The storm woke me at 5.30, so Carter (very begrudgingly) and I went for our walk and dance workout on the drive. It was pitch black (we live out in the wop wops with no lights) windy, and wet, but we had fun by the light of my phone torch (only I mistakenly had it on flight mode until morning tea, no wonder it was quiet). Today's bopping tunes: Love Resurrection – Alison Moyet; The Boy Wonders – Aztec Camera; Rock Lobster – The B-52’s; E=MC2 – Big Audio Dynamite; London Calling – The Clash; What the World Needs Now – Dionne Warwick; You Sexy Thing – Hot Chocolate; Brother Louie – Modern Talking

Day 4 - yucky rain and yellow anoraks

Wednesday 4 June 2025
Blog image

Got soaked this morning...the rain was heavyish, but I slipped and grabbed a bush to halt my fall, it sprang back at me and I got drenched - but all in a good cause! After changing from one yellow anorak to another, I headed for work, a big day including running our AGM. This meant 20 minutes of crazy dancing around the dining table was just what I needed. No donations today sadly...but many days of fundraising to go. Today's tunes: My Sister Rose - 10,000 Maniacs; Waterloo - ABBA; Lean on Me - Bill Withers; You Give Love A Bad Name - Bon Jovi; Grenade - Bruno Mars; Pushing up Daisies - The Colourfield; Quando Quand Quando - Connie Frances.

Day 3 - lurking in the dark a bit

Tuesday 3 June 2025
Blog image

Ooh, tricky being back at work, dark when I got up, so my walk with Carter was a bit wobbly on our track. I just did the short version, so I didn't slip off the edge. Then dark when I got home so my dancing was indoors today but who cares, I received more donations, thank you!!!! I've raised $360 so I'm thrilled. Motivating music today: Have You Ever Seen The Rain - Rod Stewart; Saturday Night - The Cure, Bella Lugosi's Dead - Bauhaus, Happy House- Siouxsie and the Banshees, Jolene - Dolly Parton, Some Day Will Come - Amy Winehouse, Man Like That - Gin Wigmore, Whole of the Moon - The Waterbors, Just Like Heaven - The Cure, Voulez Vous - Abba, Who Let The Dogs Out - Baha Men (latter a mistake from my shared Spotify list with Chelsea).

Day 2 - big walk then a boogie

Monday 2 June 2025
Blog image

Thank you SO much to those who donated yesterday, I'm so appreciative of you kind and lovely people x Your donations inspired a mammoth morning for me. Being Kings Birthday helped as it's a public holiday. My little dog Carter and I took off for a walk around our garden track, with its steep start and finish it gets the blood pumping. Then straight into my dancing: Psycho Killer - Talking Heads; Rock the Casbah - The Clash; Town Called Malice - The Jam; Sunnyside of the Street - The Pogues; Zombie - The Cranberrries; Girls & Boys - Blur; Anxious - The Housemartins; Blue Monday - New Order; Sir Down - James.....at which point I did, phew.

Day 1 - Why I'm Sweating with Pride

Sunday 1 June 2025
Blog image

What on earth has got me 'badly dancing' for at least 21 minutes a day this month?  Too many lives are at risk because our schools, workplaces and public spaces are unsafe for Rainbow New Zealanders.  Across the world we are seeing increasing hatred towards our LGBTQIA+ family and friends, and that breaks my heart.  Every dollar I raise will directly support our Rainbow communities, so I'll be grateful for every dollar donated.

For those who like to follow along with my dancing tunes, today's playlist was: Rod Stwart - Reason to Believe; Alison - Elvis Costello; Kid - The Pretenders; Abba - SOS; Suspicious Minds - Fine Young Cannibals; The Killing Moon - Echo & The Bunnymen; A Little Respect - Erasure; It's My Life - Bon Jovi; The Day After - The Men They Couldn't Hang; Rain - The Cult; Duality - Slipknot
