Why I’m Sweating with Pride

Kia ora!

I'm taking on Sweat with Pride this June! This is my first year, I was inspired by Cathy (go Cathy!!💦🌈) 😊

As you know, lots of places in Aotearoa aren't safe for many in the rainbow community. Fundraising through Sweat with Pride is a way of tackling that discrimination and making our country a better place 🌈🌈🌈

I would be very grateful for any support you can provide to help raise money for life-changing Rainbow support services. In exchange, I will exercise (even when I don't feel like it and it's cold and miserable) for 21 minutes every day in June 😎

This cause means a lot to me and I'd be super grateful for your support - every dollar makes a difference. I hope we can get to my $1,989 goal 🥰

Kia ora! It’s da weekend yay! Today’s sweat was gardening! We put the planter box together and planted lettuce, spring onions, strawberries and silver beet :D yay! Afterwards I went to go read and found Mika in my oodie 😅 I mean his oodie 😹 see ya tomorrow!! 🩵

Hewoooo. Today started off bad, I had pretty bad nightmares again and the cats woke us up by fighting at 1am 😅 and then when I got on the train I realised I’d lost my necklace 😓 so I posted on the community facebook pages but felt like it was lost forever. And then I tried to distract myself but I just felt sick on the train like it was a bus! So sad. BUT. Before I yeeted to da team meeting I found out someone had found it yay!!!!!! Isn’t that amazing! I frequently (well, always) lose hope in the world, there is so much going on and it feels like we’re just little specks of dust sometimes and that everything is bad and we’re just caught in this perpetual badness cycle that won’t ever end. But this gesture gave me some hope which is nice 🥰 and as of now we’re officially $888 away from reaching my goal which is AWESOME!!! Yay!! Thank you so much ☺️ back to sweating, because of the bad start to the day I was feeling quite stressed and tired all day, and all my usual coping techniques went out the window (I should really write them down and put them in me wall-e). So by the time I got home I was not looking forward to exercising at all. But I went on YouTube anyway and found a fabulously titled yoga with Adriene session called Yoga for Seasonal Affective Disorder and that was just what I needed! So that was my sweat for today, hopefully I get a break from the string of bad sleep so I feel more energised for the weekend. Oooh and the other sort of sweat today was a few of us went for a break to get a cupcake from a new store that opened!! I got a Hawke’s Bay peach one, so yummy 🤤 and a mango one for Russell! Yooohoooooo. It’s day 12! I slept through both my alarms, my brain was stuck in silly nightmares again! I didn’t have time to have brekkie at home so the train ride was a bit 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 ah well. After work I went to get pizza with my brother and sister! That was approximately 18 minutes of walking to get there, plus a few more to get back home so I think that’ll count for today 😊 I was pretty tired all day but at least it’s Friday tomorrow wahoo!! Thank you to Yassasvie and Anna for your donations today, you’re amazing!! 🥰 it’s so incredible to reach over $1k, I feel so happy and grateful for all the support 💜 ooh and here’s a pic of a nice quote from the SYSCA book I’m reading! YO! I had pretty bad nightmares last night so I worked from home, sad cos I like to stick to my schedule! But that’s ok. For today’s sweat I did another Yoga with Adriene video, this time one for tension relief! I’d been feeling pretty tense all day so that’s what I needed 😊 wahoo! Kia ora! Today was brrrr so I worked in my oodie for most of the day (from home! But wouldn’t it be incredible if we could really wear whatever we wanted at work?). After work I did a core exercise to the song Delicate (track 5 on reputation 🤓) and that was hard! I would like to work on more core muscles mainly so it doesn’t hurt to do dishes, apparently they’re related 😅 then we had dins and then I did a 28 minute “OG 2000s emo punk rock” dance workout by emkit! That was fun, she had a Good Charlotte song from ages ago and it made me remember when I was 15 and being like, “yeah, I don’t wanna fall in love either” 😹 now it’s time for a hot shower and bed and more reading yay!! Toodles 🩵 OOPS I didn’t take any pics today so in lieu of that here’s a pic of what I was doing exactly 5 years ago today 🤪

Hiiii! Today was a busy day at work, I like to try and get outside during the day at least once but that didn’t happen! And I guess cos my brain was working overtime I burned through all my food really quickly so I got pretty hungry. After work I met up with my sister (she got me pocky sticks yayayay!!) and we caught the bus to Petone - it was very full and stop start-y- not good for ye old tum tum 🤢 so once we got to Petone we got off as soon as we could! We then walked to Animates to get pet food for Mika - he has anxiety so needs special food ❤️ so that walk was my sweat for today! I am still feeling quite lethargic from da weekend so I didn’t do more once I got home, but I did start reading a book my Mom and my sister got me! I have a hard time just picking up a book and actually reading it (no problem adding them to my collection though hehe 😜) so this was a big achievement for Jaini. Wahooo! I’ll see how I feel tomorrow and try and do something more active than the past few days. ALSO I feel so grateful to everyone for their donations! Thank you to Abby and Jeremy for yours!! Kia ora anō! It’s Sunday which should equal fun day but Jaini was super exhausted. I just felt like laying in bed and rotting and melting into nothingness 🫠 I was very tempted to do so but I knew I’d be grumpy at myself and feel worse if I did that, so instead I wrote a list of housework to do for today’s sweat and got cracking! I listened to Ed Sheeran’s new song on repeat 😁 it’s called Sapphire and he sings in Punjabi for a bit which is so cool!!! 😎 anyway I hope I feel better tomorrow, I feel pretty rubbish still but we’ll get there! For now, it’s bed time (if Zoey lets me sleep!). See ya tomorrow! 💜

Hello! It is freezing today! I definitely needed a chill day today after some rubbish sleep. I caught da train to Wellington and walked to Unity Books and got some postcards yay! And then continued my walk to high tea with two friends! It was so yummy, I had 5 cups of tea 🫖 one was called Nan’s apple crumble, one was peachy, one was minty with lemon balm, and another was a cacao chai! And then I had Nan’s apple crumble again - so good 🤤 we have a tonne of lemon balm growing at home plus mint, so perhaps I’ll try brewing some fresh tea on the weekends! 😊 see ya tomorrow ✌️🌈❤️

IT’S FRIDAY!!!! Yay! 🌈 today was pretty tiring work-wise (in a by 2pm I was like “when is the next express train?” way. Guilty.) so I’m glad the work week is done! Man, I was so not wanting to do any exercise once I got home though. I hurt my elbow from jumping from joy when Russell told me my oodie arrived! And then once I was in said oodie it was so snuggly and warm and I wanted to turn into a cat and just sleeeeep. But then I was like YO JAINI you made a promise so you are gonna stick to da promise unless you actually need rest. And I was like aww do I have to? I could just melt into my oodie instead…but alas, I went through YouTube to find a dance exercise video that would give me enough motivation and then I came across emkfit who I’ve forgotten all about!!! I love her videos cos she teaches you two dance moves at a time and gives you low impact options too! 💃 and GUESS WHAT? EMKIT HAS AN ERAS TOUR DANCE WORKOUT VIDEO!! Da best exercise for me is when I don’t know how much time is elapsing and where there’s enough for my brain to think about to distract me from impending doom. So this was perfect!! I think she had the OG now-not-stolen version of Shake It Off and that was so good to listen to again!!! So I did that and that was fun and now I’m gonna make a hot choccy wahooo! Hii hii hii! It’s day 5 wahoo! My informal challenge for today was chopping and peeling sugar cane from my Mom and little sister - success yay! Thanks Mom and Millie 🥰 I made scones for work tomorrow, then did yoga with Adriene again, this time “Yoga for Overthinking”. It was a challenging one, with some bicycle movements at the end! Afterwards I played some ukulele, I’ve been playing on and off for a few years (actually, I’m thinking perhaps since 2016? That was almost a decade ago, Jaini 😅) and it’s always nice to get back into it! I played Stick Season by Noah Kahan, Free Now by Gracie Abrams and Sparks Fly by TayTay 🥰🥰🥰 the ukulele is such a happy instrument! Hiiii! Today is day 4 yay! I realise that my blog posts aren’t showing any paragraphs despite my best efforts, so apologies - but on the bright side, that’s what the inside of my brain looks like all da time (CHAOS) so you’re also welcome 🤪 After some digesting dinner I did 21 minutes on the rowing machine. I listened to the latest Gone By Lunchtime podcast episode by The Spinoff (highly recommend) and honestly I kept checking the display thingy to see how many minutes I had left! Classic rookie move, next time I shall hide it from sight. On to the next paragraph! 😅 actually I don’t have too much to say, except that tomorrow will probably be a yoga day wahoooo and I also want to fit in some ukulele jamming. I listened to Stick Season by Noah Kahan today and I forgot how much I love that song, so that’ll be on the list! 🥰 Thank you again for your support, it means the world. Kia ora!! It is day 3 yay! I’m working from home today so today’s exercise will be walking downhill to the supermarket which is about half an hour away. We are almost out of coffee and tragically out of rainbow paddle pops (my fave treat at the moment) 😅 Sorry, I also don’t mean to be all woe is me (I’m so glad about deciding to do this challenge 🥳) - but I thought I should mention that I was diagnosed with compartment syndrome 2 weeks ago. I will hopefully get it sorted with some surgery soon. Unfortunately the pain from it means I can’t do all the exercises I’d like to, which is while you might find what I’m tracking is on the more mild end! Interestingly downhill walking is way more painful than uphill is because of it, but the lure of paddlepops (and meeting up with Russell at the train station) is a great incentive :D plus with everything that is going on in the world with the attempts to strip rainbow rights it does feel good to be helping to counter that in a small way. What is up guys, it’s ya girl here. I woke up so tired today, nightmares are really not fun! My original plan for today was to go on the rowing machine but my body was telling me to take some rest, so I tried to listen for once 😅 I ended up doing some housework while listening to TayTay (omg it’s so good being able to listen to her OG songs again yay!!!) and then in the afternoon I had a quick nap which was interrupted by me shouting myself awake (nightmare #2, sad). I was still feeling not that great so I thought I needed a chill activity for today’s challenge. So I set up my new candle (thank you Lise and Vimal ❤️), put the heater on, and found a yoga with Adriene session called “Yoga For When You Are Spiralling”! 🌀 It helped a lot, I feel a lot less fuzzy now wahooooooo! I’m not sure what I’ll do tomorrow, I’d like to find a dance workout that isn’t too high impact - we shall see! Thank you for your support, see ya here tomorrow 😄

Halloooo!!


This is my first blog post wahoooo. I am a little nervous about doing this challenge because of my legs being in pain A LOT but only sometimes when they feel like it 🤨 but I know there are lots of other ways I can exercise that won’t aggravate the pain so much (I have an appointment for compartment pressure syndrome tomorrow - where they use a needle to check the pressure in your legs - which might explain things)! Like dancing to ATWTMVTV twice or sofa exercises (these are way more difficult than they look) and gardening (so many weeds and leaves) - it’ll be fun! 

Ah I am so nervous for that appointment though, I shall grab a sweet treat later to help ease da pain.
