Poppet and I are walking 50k for Rainbow Kiwis – can you help us?
Right now, many rainbow Kiwis still face discrimination and unsafe environments in schools, workplaces, and even healthcare—and it’s putting lives at risk. LGBTQIA+ Kiwis experience higher rates of mental illness, suicide, and barriers to accessing the support they deserve.
So this October, Popet and I are putting our paws to the pavement—walking 50km together for Pride Unleashed—to raise money for life-changing Rainbow support services.
This cause means the world to me (and many of the Poppets I’ve adopted), and I’d be so grateful if you could chip in to help us reach our goal. Every dollar makes a difference and helps create a safer, kinder Aotearoa for our Rainbow whānau.
And since ya’all know, every step I take is a battle against my own monkey, I’ll be giving it all I got.

Added an extra block on today hoping to add an extra k. But didn’t quite make it to 3. Damn it. But lucky 13 means it’s the furthest we’ve done.
Forgot to take my phone so a throw back picture it is.
Walk 12 done ✅: 29k to go!!!
We broke the 20k mark!! Woo hoo!!!. We wear it with PRIDE.
I realise with 9 days to go, 50k may have been a weeeee bit overly ambitious in one month. Given I’d only managed to walk the block 3 times ever prior to this, every day was probably a fantasy.
But I committed to this, so me and Poppet will continue to do our #PrideUnleashed walks into November. I hope this is okay with everyone who sponsored us, or plans to sponsor us. 🙏 if not i shall personally refund you.
I still wake everyday and hope today I can move freely. I do not have to worry all the time about not being enough. That I wont have to ask for help.
I know many in the LGBTQ+ community wake up this way too. Not because they have an illness or condition, but because we let hate and discrimination fester.
More value should be placed on kindness, love and mutual support. Ive receivded so much love, laughter and kindess from the queer community that i would never receive from a church. And I’m just an ally.

A psychiatrist once told me that my determination was both my greatest asset and my biggest downfall.
This is determination. Feeling like vomitting in pain. Too sore to dress up in our fun clothes. Wearing my dressing gown in public on the slowest 2k ever. Looking like a kumquat.
Because Liana B and Caitlin Alabaster believed in me enough to sponsor this awesome cause last night.
So no wallowing. Just throwing everything we’ve got at it.
To drag us through a very complicated 1k. I fought the pain, and the km won!
