This is my first year sweating

I’m sweating to fight for equality, one sweaty session at a time!

Why I’m Sweating with Pride

I'm taking on Sweat with Pride this June! 💦🌈

Right now, schools, workplaces, and even doctors’ offices aren’t safe for many in our community—and it’s putting lives at risk. LGBTQIA+ Kiwis face higher rates of mental illness, suicide, and STIs like syphilis, mpox, and HIV.

So, I'm fighting discrimination with perspiration—exercising 21 minutes every day in June to raise money for life-changing Rainbow support services.

This cause means the world to me, and I’d be SO grateful if you could chip in to help me reach my goal. Every dollar makes a difference.

Thank you so much for your support! ❤️

Forwards rolls!

Thursday 19 June 2025

The last time I did a forwards time was in intermediate, so 2000 or 2001. I remember specifically because I was in the school hall and did something funny to my neck, so it was a very deliberate choice to not do them again ... At the kids gymnastics classes today though, (no code for gymnastics/parent mucking around with kids at gymnastics - so I've coded today as acrobatics 😂) the coaches challenged me to do a forwards roll with the kids. Felt like a Muppet, actually pretty scary and I got very disoriented going around, but I did it 😁😁

Watch this space. Perhaps more roly polys in my future

Moving with kids

Tuesday 17 June 2025

Blogging here is very sporadic... Mostly because half the time I just can't find where the blog button is!!

Find it really interesting trying to time my exercise with kids. Like last Thursday I took part in 2 x hour long gymnastics classes with the kids and walked (part way) to school. ... But that's obviously not as intensive as doing my own intentional exercise, but I'm definitely moving!
On days like that I'm basically just halving the time and logging that, or on less busy exercise with kids days, just logging my own intentional exercise, because that's so much easier to track!

Walking and stretching

Saturday 7 June 2025

Gentle movement today - short lunchtime walk with friends and kids, and a hip mobility session (thanks les mills on demand!) this evening.

Lounge dancing with the kids again

Friday 6 June 2025

Friday is my 2nd bootcamp day of the week, but after getting up to the kids for the 4th time in the night - at 5am I turned off my alarm and slept through bootcamp.

Under normal circumstances that would mean I didn't do intentional exercise today - but you fabulous people have contributed over $700 for me to move!! So move I will.
Another kids les mills on demand workout with Ellen and her friend.

Bootcamp and living room dancing

Thursday 5 June 2025

Killed myself at bootcamp yesterday morning- even taking the easier options provided. But it felt good! Lungs feeling a little clearer and I love getting my workout done early in the morning when it doesn't feel like it interferes with anything else. I've been part of this bootcamp group since Ellen was born and love it. Such an incredibly supportive group of wahine toa, and coaches who meet you exactly where you are at.

Today I tried out les mills online and had a dance party workout with the girls in the living room 👍💪💪♥️♥️

Meeting minimum standards 😬

Tuesday 3 June 2025

Oh my goodness I'm so tired! This virus is still kicking my butt!

Went cycling round the park yesterday with the timer on in my basket so I knew when my 21 minutes was done so I could rest!! Similar approach today out walking. Hopefully my energy levels and activity will increase over the next week.
Bootcamp in the morning tomorrow- send thoughts and prayers!

Sweaty Gardening today!

Sunday 1 June 2025

Not the start to sweat with pride month I was hoping for, but after almost 2 weeks with the whole family battling the flu my lungs are not at full functional capacity! I ditched lung busting cardio and got sweaty in the garden instead. Some repotting, digging and vigorous weeding. For 25mins, then I was knackered!
