This is my 1st
year sweating

I’m sweating to challenge myself, boost my wellbeing, and support a great cause!

Why I’m Sweating with Pride

I'm taking on Sweat with Pride this June! πŸ’¦πŸŒˆ

Right now, schools, workplaces, and even doctors’ offices aren’t safe for many in our communityβ€”and it’s putting lives at risk. LGBTQIA+ Kiwis face higher rates of mental illness, suicide, and STIs like syphilis, mpox, and HIV.

So, I'm fighting discrimination with perspirationβ€”exercising 21 minutes every day in June to raise money for life-changing Rainbow support services.

This cause means the world to me, and I’d be SO grateful if you could chip in to help me reach my goal. Every dollar makes a difference.

Thank you so much for your support! ❀️

Collecting the Wrong Kind of Badges

Friday 5 June 2026

My first week of Sweat with Pride is underway!

One of the reasons I joined Sweat with Pride was to give myself some extra motivation to get moving and to force me to overcome my shyness about attending the gym. So far, so good.

Over the last five days I've hit the gym three times and used my at-home exercise bike twice. I've also discovered that while this site has badges for official milestones, I've apparently been collecting a few Lizzie-specific achievements along the way:

πŸ… Purchased a gym padlock with the keys already locked onto the padlock and spent 10 minutes trying to free them (similar energy to buying scissors that are trapped inside packaging requiring scissors to open).

πŸ… Completed a workout that started after 9pm because I was trying very hard to convince myself that "tomorrow" was a perfectly reasonable alternative. (In my defence, my dog had come home covered in horse poo and derailed the evening.)

πŸ… Forgot a towel at the gym and successfully dried myself using a spare t-shirt. Technically effective... but not recommended.

πŸ… Forgot spare socks after a gym session and chose to walk through rainy Wellington in my shower jandals rather than put my sweaty socks back on.

πŸ… Completed my first rainy Wellington morning gym session while questioning many of my life choices.

πŸ… Thought the snowflake icon on the bike was to adjust the (non-existent) fan and instead triggered the cool down, ending my workout early.

I'm trying to focus on consistency over intensity, so I'm pleased to have completed 5 consecutive days. So far, the biggest challenge hasn't been the exercise itself - it's been the gym logistics. Hopefully I get better at that soon!

Thank you to everyone supporting Sweat with Pride and the incredible work it does for rainbow communities. Your encouragement really does help on the days when staying in bed sounds much more appealing than exercising.
