Right now, many rainbow people in Aotearoa still face discrimination and unsafe environments in schools, workplaces, and even healthcare—and it’s putting lives at risk. LGBTQIA+ folks experience higher rates of mental illness, suicide, and barriers to accessing the support they deserve.
This October, Wendy (she/her) and Jim (good boy) will be walking 100 km together for Pride Unleashed—to raise money for life-changing Rainbow support services.
Jim had a second knee surgery in June 2025, and he is almost fully recovered and back to his boisterous self. Now that he is able to do some longer walks, I'm stoked to be able to put some steps in to support Rainbow folks across the motu.

After a couple of days away in beautiful te Tai Tokerau Northland with some very irregular walk tracking (Jim did heaps of walking and running and swimming), we crossed the 100 km line on our afternoon walk yesterday (the 30th)!
We are 15 days in, and we've crossed the 50 km line! We're up to 54 km after almost 5 kms in one go today (it got warm so we stopped after 3 to get some water at home). Did more hills than usual, which is good for Jim's knee recovery.
We've just hit 40 km and are sitting at number 10 on the leaderboard for top fundraisers! Our best place was 9 yesterday, which I only just happened to see - it was a total surprise!
We reached our first stretch goal today with the help of Animates's donation matching day! Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed so far - you are all amazing and doing your bit to help make this wide world a bit better every day. Ngā mihi nui ki a tātou!
