Tenā tātau i te whanau
Today is the last day of Sweat With Pride, a month long of sweating, walking, fundraising and donating.
Kia pehea ana au ināianei?
Well I’m sitting here writing this fighting the winter flu, struggling to move and struggling to breathe so to make up for the last day of activitness 20minutes or more of moving nga ringa will have to do.
Na te mea he aha ahau i timata ai i tēnei?
I started this for multilple reasons Tua tahi one being that I had already started a health journey and wanted to keep going and being motivated daily by being held accountable by a whole community as well as my small group of friends or whanau nga hoa my village, tua rua secondly for te aniwaniwaa whanau me nga tamariki our rainbow 🌈 community and the youth. I work in a space where I see our tamariki battle there mamae the confusion of not being accepted or understood, unseen and unheard, so for this month I can walk, for this month I can lift weights, I can bike and hike and sweat through the struggles, I can fight for a cause that awhi our tamariki, our future needs to be nourished, kindness and acceptance needs to be at the forefront of our wairua . Ahakoa, he iti te paunamu , ka honongaa I te whanau aniwaniwaa raua ko takatāpui.
He aha nga arai i pa ki au?
The biggest barrier was trying to stay healthy, not get sick and fight through the sickness even when it did come, there were a few days where movement was the bare minimum, vacuuming and cleaning were the alternative to walking outside for 20minutes, other barriers were being busy, work, family, doctors, appointments, PROcrastination, rain, wind, cold, but we stuck it out whanau we kept going, rain or shine, the gym was met with much debate, sweat and tears, floppy arms and floppy legs.
I pehea taku kimi i te kohi putea?
I think the fundraising was always going to be my biggest struggle when doing this.
I’m thankful to those who did donate, even donating to myself helped boost my motivation that little bit more, I’m proud and grateful that I managed to get even one donation but making over 50$ was already a huge shock to me as I don’t put myself out there enough and keep to a very small circle, I post the bare minimum and have very little to no influence so this was probably the biggest accomplishment for me during this whole month, I’m proud of our team Fran g Panties for making it well pass the target fundraiser goal and sweating well and beyond our personal goals tau ke whanau!
Aku whakaaro whakamutunga.
My last thoughts, I think it opened my eyes to how achievable 20minutes of moving a day really is, how creative we can be with our daily activeness and how ok it is to take a day off to just sit and be with yourself.
So that’s the month of sweat with pride wrapped up in a nutshell.
To be able to give back to such a large community whom have to face society and battle the obstacles and navigate the difficulties and differences I think this fundraiser is a beautiful and rewarding way to give back to our aniwaniwaa whanau me te takatāpui whanau.
E mihi Ana.
