Why I’m Sweating with Pride
I’m taking on Sweat with Pride this June 💦🌈
For me, this is personal. I’ve been married to my wife for 18 years. Together we’re raising our two beautiful boys (7 and 12), and so far the world has been kind to them—which is something I never take for granted.
But I also carry a quiet fear about what lies ahead, especially as they grow into their teenage years. I want them—and every young person—to grow up in a world where they feel safe, accepted, and proud of who they are and who their family is.
Because families like ours aren’t “different”—they’re perfectly normal. It’s normal to have two mums or two dads. It’s normal to love who you love. And it should be safe to be exactly who you are.
That’s why I’m “fighting discrimination with perspiration”—moving for 21 minutes every day in June to support life-changing Rainbow services that help make Aotearoa safer and more inclusive for our community.
