Why we’re Sweating with Pride

We’re taking on Sweat with Pride this June to raise money for Rainbow communities! 💦🌈

Our schools, workplaces, and doctors’ offices are still not safe places for many Rainbow New Zealanders and it’s putting lives at risk.

More than half our rainbow whānau have experienced mental illness. One in five of our rainbow rangatahi (youth) have attempted suicide. And STIs like syphilis, mpox and HIV are still far too common. Things need to change.

So, this June we’re fighting discrimination with perspiration, and have committed to exercising for at least 21 minutes EVERY DAY to raise money to support Rainbow Kiwis.

This cause means a lot to us. We’d be SO GRATEFUL if you could chip in to help us reach our goal. Every dollar we raise will fund life-changing mental, physical and sexual health services for Rainbow New Zealanders.

Thank you sooooo much ❤️

Team Updates

Day 10

Tuesday 10th
With the weather not playing ball today much of the team had to time their workouts right. Charlotte and Ping got their steps in at the local park and the uni campus respectively while Emma and Rissa did at home workouts.

Day 9

Monday 9th
Another chilly day for the team 🥶 but everyone got themselves moving!

Rissa got a lunchtime walk in at the office 🏬

Ping got in some stretching 🧘‍♀️

Charlotte was out with Lukey-horse for an afternoon ride 🐎

And Emma got a frosty morning walk in to start the day ☀️

Day 7

Saturday 7th
And so week 1 of sweat with Pride comes to an end!

Ping got her sweat on (and a few bruises) at her Wingchun class. Andrew went to the gardens with plans for a walk which turned into a mad dash out of a downpour. Emma worked up a sweat at karaoke. Charlotte worked up a sweat with general airport run around in the morning and barn chores in the evening.

Winner of the day was Larissa clocking a total of 11,592 steps! Doing amazing volunteer work with the Riding for the Disabled in Wellington 💛

Day 6

Friday 6th
Day 6

The team has come together and smashed some sweat goals today!

Charlotte and Emma met for a much needed success-coffee-catch up after swimming, physio and yoga.

Ping is pushing through on some vigorous essay writing today, still getting in that 20 minutes of sweat time!

Rissa had a lunchtime stroll around parliament 🏆

Andrew got into a fun YouTube exercise routine 💪 and ran the cold off 🥶

Another brilliant day for team Holy Walkamolies 👏

Day 5

Thursday 5th
Today was the first match day of SWP 2025! Today Rissa bravely traversed the Terrace on a windy day, Ping balanced stressed assignment writing with some table tennis 🏓 Imogen had a Pilates reformer session and Emma pursued the art of reading while also doing a gym workout. An art I am slowly learning on the bike too.

We’re 5 days in and on the cusp of $500 already! Proud of the crew

Day 3: Stepping into a rhythm

Tuesday 3rd
Honestly ,  a lot of us were feeling a bit rough this morning. Kicked with a bit too much gusto and are all feeling a bit sore today.

Charlotte banked today as a recovery day, the control required to actually rest is sweat worthy! Gentle stretching and making nice with her spiked massage balls was her sweat for the day.

BC and Nerissa both got their steps in with a daily walk, while Emma got a workout kneading pizza dough and doing some yoga. Ping's sweat for the day was in the more professional setting of delivering a seminar presentation. All sweats count in June! We're looking forward to finding our rhythm over the month!

Day 1

Sunday 1st
Sweat with Pride is finally here!

Day 1 saw many of the crew putting the walk in Holy Walkamolies!

Our newest recruit Larissa took her doggos for a walk, while I got some steps in doing errands. Rissa walked along Wellington harbour, while Ping won picture of the day with beautiful views from Piahia.

While the others walked today, Andrew did a YouTube home workout and Emma and I hit the gym. Emma had a day on the weights while I hit the water. Lots of different ways to sweat and a great way to kick off June
